The Triple Threat
All nicknames for Jason, Janet, and Jahnoya. And what a performance this trio put on. We had their family in for a presentation to show before the same-day edit. We came up with the idea of multiple perspectives and a two part SDE. We've seen quite a few performances in our day, but none that can compare with the grandeur and sheer coolness that these guys put on.
With about twenty people in the wedding party and over a month of practicing, I think their performance had its intended effect of absolutely rocking the house. I can recall standing in the steadicam, completely awe-struck, trying to pick up my jaw from the floor (which can be tough in a steadicam), when I realized that I should probably stop staring and start shooting.

We often get asked about the differences between highlights and same-day edit, so we really just wanted to share an example of each from the same wedding so you could get a better idea of how they differ (plus, I'm really excited to share their highlights!!). If your not so interested in the differences between the clips, just skip to the end and check out their rockin' highlights.
With a same-day edit being produced in a mere hours, we really have to rely on our instincts in terms of what shots to choose, how to sequence them, and how to tell the story. With highlights, we can agonize over a single frame and where it goes for that same amount of time. Our SDEs have come a long way in the past year and can rival the highlights at first glance, but I think as you take a peek a bit more you may notice some subtleties in the highlights that will make it stick with you for longer.
Here is a brief rundown between the two clips. SDEs tend to be a bit flashier, using more detail shots (i.e. rings) and photo session footage to increase the visual impact at your reception. The storyline, while very important, is not something we can baby with so little time, and so it is often developed less than in a highlights clip. There are also a lot of shots here and there that we can't get into the SDE because we can't review everything and awesome things inevitably happen after the SDE is ready to be shown.
A highlights clip on the other hand will have a much more developed storyline. The soundtrack is often more timeless (this always depends on who the couple is though). We can be sure to review absolutely everything before starting, and it is something we can go back and tweak endlessly before it is released to the world. There are more subtleties in a highlights clip, and that makes them fun to explore over and over (not to say those aren't there in SDEs, just more so in highlights).
When you check these out, try not to think of which one you like better, but instead explore the clips and see if you can identify some of the little differences between them. ![]()

Wow what a weekend! Stephen and Patricia had an amazing wedding in downtown Houston Texas. The ceremony and reception were held at the Magnolia Hotel. Patricia created an amazing look and feel for her wedding. With tons of “bling” mixed with pink and green, the colors were to die for! To top it all off we had an amazing filming session at the Houston Aquarium. It made for some really unique moments and some amazing shoots!
The Same Day Edit was a surprise for the guests and bridal party, and boy was it a surprise! We played the Same Day Edit in HD just after the cake cutting and everyone loved it! Hope you enjoy. ![]()

It is always special, while also a little sad, when one of our biggest blog fans gets married. Sylvia has been such a sweetheart since she first contacted us last year and we certainly hope that her comments keep coming well after her wedding. What you miss in this SDE though is all of the crazy lights, pots and pans, and other mayhem that ensued after the showing and for the rest of the evening.

Weddings can be somewhat funny creatures. I love the juxtaposition of emotions you see in Kimberley + Trevor's SDE. As Kimberley and her mother are having a very emotional moment in their suite as they prepare for the day, several flights below their window Trevor and the guys are getting Hello Kitty ready for a car ride.
Kimberley + Trevor were married back on October 18th in Toronto. This is one of the clips we kept in the vault so that we had something special to show our couples when they came to visit the studio.
Their SDE is an example of one of our premium same-day edits. We had 3 cinematographers there to shoot both the main feature and SDE (whereas our regular collections have 2 cinematographers).
Sorry for the wait Kimmy.

Jake and Lisa had a really wonderful wedding. I love shooting weddings that revolve around a culture other than what I grew up in. It's extremely interesting to learn new traditions and see different ceremonies. Jake and Lisa are both Korean and almost every aspect of their day was in their native tongue. None of us speak a word of Korean; as you can imagine this poses some very interesting and unique hurdles. However, in true StillMotion style, I think we crossed them with flying colours. We all worked extremely hard together as one entity to pool ideas and create one of our best SDEs yet. Patrick did an amazing job of editing it together in about 2 hours.
Enjoy.

What a treat to travel down to Tupelo and be a part of Chase and Betsy's wedding. Though Betsy denies doing any modeling in her past, we are pretty confident she is a British supermodel. Chase, not to be outdone by Betsy's talents, had to show us just how well he could hang from a ladder upside-down; and what a cool shot we got. ![]()
The superhero of the day though was Chuck Sims, the father of the groom and best man, who found us the best photo-session location to date (an abandoned warehouse) and sent out a small research team to find out who owned it and how we could get in. Chuck also gets superhero points for taking us to a small Southern restaurant to get some yummy BBQ and the tastiest homemade cake we've ever tried, and generally just making us feel really at home for our entire trip.
We are still getting the hang of remote Same-Day Edits, but this one really pushed us. What a time crunch- we started at the salon at 6am and the SDE was to be shown at the end of the reception shortly before 4pm. By the time we arrived at the reception and started editing, we had about 90 minutes before we needed to prepare everything to be shown. Chuck also owns Chuck Sims Images (CSI) and is a professional photographer in Tupelo shooting mainly seniors, which just added to the pressure. With such a time crunch, Mike and I had to both edit during different parts of the day, and it certainly is a good thing we did or we likely wouldn't have been done on time.
