Shannon + Jason’s wedding was held at Kairos on June 7, 2008. This wedding was shot entirely in vintage super 8mm film. Having your wedding shot in super 8 will give it a unique and nostalgic feel. You can check out their wedding trailer here, and the highlights below.

After watching this film a good thirty times each, we thought it would be a good time to add in some more details about Raj + Carolyn’s rather epic wedding.

I’ve admired the work of Naomi Raiselle for quite a while now.  Naomi’s studio, Generations Cinemastories, produces documentary wedding films in the Boston area.

She has the amazing ability to capture the true spirit of the event and the true essence of the characters involved.  Their work is intimate, unpretentious, real and moving. I asked her to show us an example and tell us a little about the couple and the event.

Lindsey and Nate

Lindsey and Nate came to see us well over a year before their wedding. It was an immediate “click” with these two. They loved our work, and we loved them but they couldn’t afford us.  Although we were willing to adjust our rate downward a bit (they were so lovely and SO in love!) there was still just too big of a gap between their budget and our rates.

Throughout the year we heard from Lindsey – and Lindsey heard from us. As we came up with a few new packages, I would contact Lindsey, and Lindsey would tell me that she and Nate were trying to save up.

Not surprisingly (since these things DO tend to work out!) the date remained unbooked, and just a month or so before the wedding, Lindsey’s mom called to tell me that she and her husband had decided to give the couple our services as their wedding gift. We were thrilled, and needless to say, when I called Lindsey to tell her we were filming her wedding, she was over the top excited.

This week’s featured filmmakers are the husband and wife team, Steve and Laura Moses of Vantage Point Productions. Steve and Laura are not only terrific filmmakers but also leaders in their industry.  They have supported and educated other filmmakers for many years.  They are just really good people. Additionally, they seem to really have the ability to understand their clients and produce films that are special to each and every couple and each event.  This week’s clip is a great example of that.

I wish I could remember where I found this, but I love it. It’s a mini movie and it really speaks to photographers and anyone in the pursuit of happiness.

We call these highlights, and while it may be quite obvious where the name comes from, I think the meaning behind the word deserves a second glance. You will often see little details shot creatively and mixed into the story. These in themselves perhaps are not a highlight of the day, but each detail often has so much back story with the weeks to months to years that went into choosing the absolutely perfect dress, shoes, or ring. When you see these details again in the film, they are meant to tie into the much larger story of a couple, the one that both precedes and follows a wedding day.

Besides the main events what are the lesser known highlights you’re looking forward to, or if you’re already married, what were some details that ended up meaning so much more than you originally anticipated?

For my wedding, I didn’t decide on the shirt and ring I would wear until the morning of the wedding. We got all the guys together and with my belt and tie in hand we did a vote across the room to see which shirt was the best match. It was a small detail, but for some reason it really meant a lot.

And with that lead in I would like to share Alan + Marianne’s highlights. The morning of the wedding they were both practicing their dances separately as they were getting ready. This might be something we wouldn’t give a second glance to, but in this practicing there can be found so much more to their story. As wedding guests we can attend and share in 8 hours of a couple’s day and it all goes by so quickly that it can be easy to forget all that goes into making everything as it is. The juxtaposition of their preparations with their dances at the end of the night was a way of tying in that much larger story that is often left out.

It is always special, while also a little sad, when one of our biggest blog fans gets married. Sylvia has been such a sweetheart since she first contacted us last year and we certainly hope that her comments keep coming well after her wedding. What you miss in this SDE though is all of the crazy lights, pots and pans, and other mayhem that ensued after the showing and for the rest of the evening.

One of the things we love most about the craft of letterpress printing is that it is not an exact science. It’s an art. No two prints are exactly alike, but rather full of character and subtle variations of inking, color and impression that make each piece as unique as it is lovely. Our printers are true artisans who have honed their craft over the course of many months and years of printing, learning, experimenting, and teaching. Each print is closely inspected for quality and if our highest of standards are not met, we will reprint a piece to ensure it’s nothing short of spectacular.

As letterpress printing is a bit of a lost art, we recently produced a short video to offer an inside glimpse into our printshop and to see one of our vintage Heidelberg Windmill presses in action. We love how it captures the spirit of our shop, where every piece we create for both Bella Figura and Smock is crafted in-house. Our team of printers works together to continually improve and advance the art of letterpress and we just had to share a sneak peek into what they do to create the beautiful stationery we lovingly provide for brides around the world. We love this video as it was a true labor of love on behalf of Bella Figura/Smock co-founder Harold Kyle who took the time to add videographer and video editor to his long list of credentials (in addition to letterpress guru and many others) in order to offer this exclusive look into what we do.
