It is always fun to bring a new type of clip the blog. I’ve been sorting through and editing our Super 8 from last year. While we don’t offer weddings exclusively in Super 8, it is something we offer to complement our standard wedding film.
Super 8 certainly has a characteristic look that seems to capture the hearts of many. We would love to hear from you - do you enjoy the look and feel of Super 8? If so, care to share why? If you’re not as fond of super 8, we would love that feedback as well.
If you’re not too sure, check out their highlights we posted a while back as a contrast.
With that, here is Johanna + David’s super film from London, England.

Jennifer and Jason’s wedding took place at St. Mary’s Cathedral followed by the reception at Headliners Club in Austin TX on September 13, 2008. What a wonderful day it was!

I love just how expressive these two are - both with and without speaking. To me, that was a huge part of who Link + Ngoc are and that is what we really wanted to convey within their same-day edit. This piece is centered around their first meeting, during which they decided to say their vows to each other in private (well, almost private if you count us). Even without listening to what they had to say to each other, it seemed that these few moments they shared together really represented who they are together on a much larger scale.

Special thanks to Lisa Blake of BVWeddings for being such a great help in making the SDE process as smooth as possible. This was truly an international event for us. Amina, Michael, and myself were shooting in San Jose, California. We had guest shooters Casey + Danielle from Mindcastle (Seattle) as well as Matthew Ebenezer from Shadowplay (Australia).

The Triple Threat
All nicknames for Jason, Janet, and Jahnoya. And what a performance this trio put on. We had their family in for a presentation to show before the same-day edit. We came up with the idea of multiple perspectives and a two part SDE. We’ve seen quite a few performances in our day, but none that can compare with the grandeur and sheer coolness that these guys put on.
With about twenty people in the wedding party and over a month of practicing, I think their performance had its intended effect of absolutely rocking the house. I can recall standing in the steadicam, completely awe-struck, trying to pick up my jaw from the floor (which can be tough in a steadicam), when I realized that I should probably stop staring and start shooting.

Julia and Ryan got married at Celebrations at the Reservoir just south of Richmond Virginia. Which happens to be less than a mile from my home. Gotta love that! ![]()
Like a lot of outdoor weddings, everyone was afraid of “what happens if it rains”. Well, it rained but it all still went very well. A few people got a little wet and the harp player had to race the 7 foot harp to cover. But the rain stopped, they dried off the chairs and the harp and went on with the ceremony. Rather then getting stressed about it, Julia and Ryan just rolled with it and trusted that, no matter what, they were going to get married.
Mary Ana and Kevin were married at Villa Antonia on September 19, 2008. Their wedding was spectacular to say the least! The day went so perfectly, they were such a joy to work with and their guests and family had the time of their life!
The amazing flower arrangements were done by The Flower Studio. They crafted all gorgeous pieces like the cross you see in the ceremony. The awesome lighting was done by ILIOS Lighting; they are the best in town! Bringing lighting into your venue will create a unique look for your wedding, this is something I wish more couples would do. The photography was done by Andy at Studio 563. Andy is always such a fun guy to work with, and his images are more then amazing! The whole event was put together by Keri Wootton at Leave The Details To Me, and wow what amazing job she did!

It’s official - Link and Ngoc are married!! What a wonderful wedding it was in gorgeous California (right around San Jose). Rather than write about what amazing people they are, we wanted to share an abbreviated version of their love story. Once we have you fully enraptured in their story we’ll post how it all came together with their same-day edit. ![]()

Becky and TJ were married at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin Texas last year in October. Becky is a wedding planner here in Austin! It is always such an honor to be asked to shoot a wedding for someone else in the wedding industry. We had a great time at their amazing wedding! The decor was beautiful! The flowers designs were created by Bouquets of Austin and the reds just had such vibrancy to them! The lighting was handled by Ilios lighting; they always do the most amazing work. Blind Date was the music entertainment and kept the party going all night. What a great day it was and what perfect weather.
Check out their wedding trailer below.

We often get asked about the differences between highlights and same-day edit, so we really just wanted to share an example of each from the same wedding so you could get a better idea of how they differ (plus, I’m really excited to share their highlights!!). If your not so interested in the differences between the clips, just skip to the end and check out their rockin’ highlights.
With a same-day edit being produced in a mere hours, we really have to rely on our instincts in terms of what shots to choose, how to sequence them, and how to tell the story. With highlights, we can agonize over a single frame and where it goes for that same amount of time. Our SDEs have come a long way in the past year and can rival the highlights at first glance, but I think as you take a peek a bit more you may notice some subtleties in the highlights that will make it stick with you for longer.
Here is a brief rundown between the two clips. SDEs tend to be a bit flashier, using more detail shots (i.e. rings) and photo session footage to increase the visual impact at your reception. The storyline, while very important, is not something we can baby with so little time, and so it is often developed less than in a highlights clip. There are also a lot of shots here and there that we can’t get into the SDE because we can’t review everything and awesome things inevitably happen after the SDE is ready to be shown.
A highlights clip on the other hand will have a much more developed storyline. The soundtrack is often more timeless (this always depends on who the couple is though). We can be sure to review absolutely everything before starting, and it is something we can go back and tweak endlessly before it is released to the world. There are more subtleties in a highlights clip, and that makes them fun to explore over and over (not to say those aren’t there in SDEs, just more so in highlights).
When you check these out, try not to think of which one you like better, but instead explore the clips and see if you can identify some of the little differences between them. ![]()
