Bostonians Amy and John were married last year on the very lucky 8.8.08 at the very historic Old North Church (you know, where an illuminated lantern in the window signaled the British were coming by sea and thus started the American Revolutionary War?!) with a beautiful rooftop reception at the Taj overlooking Boston’s Public Garden. Rain, like so many weddings this summer it seems, prevented us from taking advantage of their gorgeous setting for portraits.
Amy’s beautiful orchids.

My husband and I, aka Erin Hearts Court, shot a lovely wedding at Calamigos ranch. It was very simple and lovely with a sweet bicycle theme, and ended with a lovely bonfire. Here are a few of our favorites! More over at our blog.

Ok. So Pia and Micah are amazing. First of all, when I met Pia our quick lunchtime meeting turned into a 2 hour lady date. I didn’t get to meet Micah until last week at their engagement session, but then again, when Pia met Micah, she met him over email. For the most part, I think of Micah as the elusive Micah. And when I finally met him I was struck by the way he made her laugh. It’s so easy and beautiful to be given the giggles by the one you love the most.
Second of all, when I met Pia, I knew it was going to seriously be a stylish affair. The shoes, the dress, the venue -everything. I was kind of having a freak out over the shoes. I got to the hotel before she was there, and I think I took 100 pictures of the shoes before she even got there. And the W in Hoboken, is one of the most photogenic hotels I’ve had the pleasure to make pictures in. And when you meet someone out of context, like I do quite often, you get a sense of a person. I knew that Pia and Micah were so very loved before I met all the lovely people who were with them on their wedding day. So glamorous, and so laid back. It was a pleasure and an honor to shoot this fabulous wedding! And a big, fat, juicy thank you to the fabulous Julia Newman for second shooting with me!
Plus! I was so excited to meet fellow PRO blogger - William Gaff of Human Story Films. When I first saw their work, I was moved to some serious tears. The way they convey the real, basic, unique and amazing love that people have for each other is no less than breathtaking. William rocks!
Cathleen and Jeff brought their black lab puppy, Jackson, to our initial meeting and I immediately knew we’d get along just fine.
Jeff proposed in a snowstorm while on a horse-drawn carriage ride in Stowe, VT. Although they live in Newburyport, MA (such an adorable town), they decided to marry in Vermont, too. They chose a gorgeous venue in East Burke (north of St. Johnsbury, not far from Canada!).
Jeff, who is in graphic design, made their wedding invitations and had them letter pressed at William Arthur. Aren’t they gorgeous? I love the variety of color.

The random // I love peonies. They’re such beautiful flowers. They look like cotton candy.
The random // Danielle loves fondant icing. I think she’s obsessed.
The amazing // Not only did Alisha and James have peonies at their wedding and a fondant wedding cake, but they had peonies made out of fondant! Best thing ever…
Alisha and James live in Australia - at least for now. They planned their wedding from afar and came to Canada only a week before the big day. Because we had never worked together before, I insisted that we get together of an engagement session during that week so we could get to know each other better. So on the Tuesday before the wedding, we went out.
And then the big day came. Originally, we were supposed to start out at the hotel after the ladies’ hair was done. But they were running a bit behind schedule, so we joined them at the salon instead. Boy am I glad we did! Mirrors everywhere! So Danielle and I decided to take advantage and make the morning all about reflections.

I knew Jess and Nat’s wedding was going to be fantastic the moment I met Jess last year at a coffee shop in Portsmouth. We immediately gabbed like old friends, spent a year furiously sending emails back and forth as their plans came together, and even met again for lunch at one of my favorite places in Boston, Wagamama. So on our drive down to Beverly the morning of their wedding, I really felt like we were going to photograph a friend’s wedding (which is often the case, I’m lucky to report!).
I met Jess and the maids at an adorable salon in Marblehead, the town Jess grew up in. It was perfectly shabby chic with lots of pink and sweet, sparkly details.

We shot Lori and Steve’s wedding at Palais Royale in Toronto. First off, I have to say that I love Palais Royale. It’s a beautiful venue with great lighting, but best of all, they treat everyone with such care. As we were about to play the same-day edit, the sound engineer came up to me and said, “I’ve been waiting to see this. The staff has been raving about you guys all day.” ![]()
All week the forecast called for showers -100%. It rained through the preps, the photo session… wait. no. It rained up until we wanted to do a bridal party shoot out in the open, and then it cleared up for about 15 minutes, but then back to rain. About 5 minutes before the ceremony was to start (inside - which was plan B), all the rain, clouds, and gloom completely disappeared. Not a cloud in the sky! So they delayed the ceremony by 30 minutes to set up the chuppah outside (again)! And after the ceremony, what did it do? It rained. Unbelievable! Lori and Steve got so lucky. It was like the weather knew exactly when to let up.

We’ve been looking forward to this wedding for a long time now. Vy and Navin are a couple of the nicest, zaniest, and creative people that we’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting - and their true nature certainly came out on their wedding day.
The day was relaxed but out of the ordinary. First off, the photo session was at 9:30 in the morning. What? Yeah. We started shooting hair and makeup at 7:30 a.m., and were at Canada’s Wonderland before the sun had a chance to break through the trees. And in true Stillmotion fashion, we barely shot any of the “obvious” photos at Wonderland. We found a lot of things that you normally wouldn’t really imagine shooting at a theme park. But, when Vy and Navin got off the roller coaster (before their ceremony mind you) and Vy’s hair was all tousled, we knew this day was going to be a blast.
After the photo session, we had a chance to sit down for a nice long lunch with the bridal party. It’s not very often we get a chance to sit down ever at a wedding, let alone for Vietnamese sandwiches with the whole gang. We had a chance to rest before we headed off to their ceremony. And what a ceremony it was… the lighting was gorgeous! We couldn’t believe it. We worked with the lighting crew from S4 to create the perfect blend of ambiance, shape, and level.
But the most interesting part of the wedding was the blend of Vietnamese and Guyanese cultures. But we’ll be posting a little more about that shortly.
Here’s a sneak peek:

So, you’ve probably seen a lot of Link and Ngoc lately. The thing is that they have devoted so much time to learning about us and contributing to our other couples, that it’s hard not to post everything we can!
Link and Ngoc have become celebrities over the last year and a half. They comment on nearly every post we create and know our work pretty much inside out. But it’s never the same when you’re looking at someone else’s wedding. You get the real experience when it’s your images you’re looking at.
Welcome back from your honeymoon! We hope you had a great time!
I want to send out a special thank you to Danielle from Mind Castle who shot with me that day (and many days to come). Not only is she a fabulous photographer and got some amazing images, shooting with her allowed me to take some risks and get some shots I wouldn’t ordinarily be able to.

That’s right. And she was pretty darn good too.
It was a bit of a hectic day. We were a little rushed through preps, and once the photo session came, and I saw how cool the place was, I wished for 5 more hours. But when you’re crunched on time, you buckle down and get down to business. As I was setting up a guys’ group shot (there were 11 of them - and they were a touch rowdy), I was thinking: do i just get the shot done well and move on so we can make the most of our time, or do I pull out my radiopoppers, screw on the antennae, velcro them to my flashes, tape the doohickey to my infrared sensor, set my flashes to slave/master, put one on a camera, hide one under a truck, do test shots, go all drill-sergeant, and do the shot the justice that it deserves?
For those who know me, you know which way I went.
Despite a bit of hurrying around, Teresa and Marco’s day went flawlessly. Perfect weather, awesome locations, and a lot of happiness.
And one of the really fun parts of the day was after dinner when we pulled out the printer bar. Teresa and Marco had opted for the having their guests be able to make their own free prints at their reception. Ok, so here’s the idea: Uncle Bob (yes, we all love him) takes a few pics at the ceremony that he wants to print. He pulls out his memory stick, plugs it in, and lets our printers to their magic. He can take the print home or give it to Teresa and Marco. A lot of their guests ended up donating their prints to Teresa and Marco’s guest book cause.
A special thanks goes out to Danielle from Mind|Castle (again) for doing such an awesome job. She and I will be shooting a few times more this year, which I’m really excited for.
