About angelswanson

Too.Much.Good.Stuff. That sums up this wedding and this post! :) When I was able to review the hundreds of proofs from this wedding, I told photographer, Travis Hoehne, that I was unable to narrow it down beyond about 50 photos (I usually pick only 20-30 max from a given wedding). Even for this post, you’ll see that I could barely get under 40 photos to feature. It’s just that everything about this wedding was so photogenic! From the gorgeous bride and groom, to the sleek and stylish venue, to the colorful and funky décor… Travis had a field day with this event!

I previously gave you a sneak peek on this wedding but there is still so much to share. You can revisit that post for a recap on the vision for the event. Today, let’s allow the amazing images to speak for themselves, as they transport you to the fabulousness that was this wedding! Much love to Travis for these dazzling photos; he is a great talent and a great guy. Can’t wait to work with him again soon!

Meagan Gilpatrick from Maine Seasons Events gives some advice to brides about wedding planning!

Some current trends in weddings:

  1. Color, color, color! Customizing every element of the wedding to tell a color story, integrating everything from beverages, stationery, table linens and the bride’s shoes. Couples are choosing non-traditional color combinations to create unique and memorable events.
  2. Personal Accents: Many couples are getting hands on with their wedding preparations, from designing their own invitations, to building the Chuppah, sewing their own veils and making their own wedding jewelry. Couples utilizing a skill or talent to create personal and unique wedding elements is an increasing trend now.
  3. Many more couples recognize the value and in many cases, the necessity, of having an independent professional coordinator throughout the planning process and increasingly, on the actual wedding day. Hiring a wedding planner or coordinator for some element of the wedding - even if it is only for rehearsal and wedding day coordination, and planning for this service in the budget is a critical step for many couples.
  4. Thinking outside the flower box when choosing table centerpieces: food, vintage toys, buckets, tea tins, recycled and repurposed items are finding their way to the table tops of today’s weddings.

I am so delighted to share this lovely event with you today, as it was an early favorite for 2009. :) Julia contacted me with a vision for a fresh, chic, spring-inspired affair that reflected a love for literature. We discussed a citrus + gray palette that had me absolutely smitten. When you pair poppy sorbet colors with cool, calm slate gray, you get magic! Pure white was the perfect addition for a neutral accent. The final result? A refreshing, cheerful, and altogether sweet scene that made me (literally) squeal with joy.

In addition to our yummy fruit-inspired colors (think grapefruit, raspberry, lemon, tangerine…), we decided to play up the charm by integrating playful, vintage-feeling décor. Think eclectic bookshop meets saccharine-sweet nostalgic candy shop. :) Vases were mostly distressed mercury glass, while vintage books and galvanized metals were featured throughout the wedding. In a flash of brilliance, Kristin of The Treasured Petal put together unique hurricane vases (for candles) by wrapping glass cylinders with pages torn from favorite books, printed on semi-opaque vellum. Take a peek at the outcome of our planning, as captured by the fabulous Mike and Emi of Evoke Photography. I looove working with these two, as they always deliver gorgeous portraits and detail shots that are classic with a fresh edge. :) Plus they are sooo much fun! xo

I am sooo thrilled to finally share this wedding with you! I first met Amanda in Sherman Oaks, and it was love at first consult…seriously! Within minutes of sitting down together, we were both going a mile a minute with ideas and inspirations for her fabulous wedding day. Amanda’s initial hope was to integrate both her Chinese heritage as well as Stephen’s Jewish traditions. Amanda also converted to Judaism before the wedding, making the day extra-special. The vision for her “Chewish Extravaganza” (Amanda coined the term! lol) evolved and was refined over time, and the result was a luxurious Chinoiserie-inspired celebration. Blush pink and shades of purple (including aubergine and amethyst) were accented by cool silver, and florals were lush, somewhat “wild” and organic in composition. Whimsical elements like cocktail arrangements nestled in bamboo steamers and Chinese tea sets combined the traditional with the non-traditional. At every turn, Amanda wanted to make her wedding to Stephen highly personalized, detailed, and fab to the nth degree!! After all, they had spent 15 (yep, fifteen!!) years together before tying the knot and that alone is reason for a serious amount of festivity! :)

Some of you may recognize Amanda below. She is Mrs. Hot Cocoa (or ‘haute cocoa,’ lol) of Weddingbee. She is also my third (!) Bee bride, and it was an absolute delight working with her. :) Now enjoy this gorgeous look at her day, with many thanks to Luna Photo (could Mike and Paula be any cooler??) and Della Chen (the sweetest!!) for their stunning images:

What a great color scheme to work with! As you can see, the darker the evening got, the more vibrant the colors -so fun. Hope you enjoy the photos!

About Christina @ Intimate Weddings

My current obsession is photography. I just recently fell in love with my Nikon D70. I’ve had it for more than four years, but never really understood the technical aspects of my camera. I finally decided it’s time to learn, and my photos are improving immensely!

I’m so inspired by the work of other photographers. And one of them is Zena Holloway. Her work is so dreamy! Interestingly, Zena started out as a scuba diver before she made a career out of underwater photography. I am so captivated by these ethereal underwater scenes . Wouldn’t it be incredible to do a wedding shoot like this?

Helloooo everyone! Can it be? Is it really June already?! May was an absolute whirlwind, as I had 4 weddings in 5 weeks. Considering that I only take on 20-25 weddings a year max, that is a pretty intense month! :) I apologize to all the readers for leaving you hanging! I assure you I have a ton of eye candy for you, so stick with me! Today, I wanted to give you all a sneak peek at a fab wedding I did last month at the ultra-hip 7 degrees.

I had the pleasure of working with stylish bride Marie (Fun fact: We went to the same high school!) long distance on this wedding. She knew from the outset that she wanted to have a sleek and modern wedding that oozed individuality. I can’t think of a better location for the modern bride than 7 degrees! The venue is equipped with incredible audio/visual and multimedia capabilities that allow for spectacular lighting and fun tech effects. Marie decided on a clean and fresh palette of grass green, turquoise, and eggplant purple. Our recurring design elements were peacock feathers, brushed aluminum and apples! One of my favorite décor pieces were these granny smith apples. We left some au naturel, and spray painted (yes spray painted!!) the rest in shades of rich purple and Caribbean blue. I was ecstatic that Marie was on board for my “painted apples” idea. I firmly believe that one of the keys to my success has been the trust my clients put in me and my (sometimes wacky) ideas!

Without further ado, here is a sneak peek at the set-up!

diy wedding drinks make your own watermelon keg

My husband and I spent the morning digging in the dirt. We’re making raised beds in our backyard to plant veggies and berry bushes. Hauling wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of topsoil can cause a sudden craving for watermelon. Thankfully, I had some on hand.

Watermelon is fruit of the gods. There is nothing better than a cool piece of sweet watermelon after hours of manual, outdoor labour. Nothing better, except maybe a cold drink, served right out of a fresh watermelon!

When I stumbled on this DIY watermelon keg tutorial on evite.com, I couldn’t help but think that this would be perfect for an outdoor wedding - or any outdoor party for that matter!

Here’s what you need:

Lanterns are a great way to decorate your wedding pews. They’re simple, but in low light they create such a wonderful ambiance. Simply use ribbon to attach them to the wedding pews.
